Abstract

The metaverse, a rapidly emerging digital space integrating virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and other advanced technologies, offers transformative possibilities for libraries in the digital age. As centers for knowledge access and community engagement, libraries are positioned to leverage the metaverse to expand their services, enhance user experiences, and stay relevant in a rapidly evolving technological landscape. This study conducts a descriptive literature review of articles published in both national and international journals, examining the applications of the metaverse in libraries. This article explores how libraries can navigate the metaverse, examining its applications in areas such as digital access, immersive learning, collaborative research, and the preservation of cultural and historical resources. By embracing metaverse technologies, libraries can offer innovative, interactive environments that extend beyond traditional physical spaces, allowing users to engage with digital content in new and dynamic ways. The article also addresses the challenges libraries face in adopting these technologies, including infrastructure limitations, digital literacy, and accessibility concerns. Ultimately, this paper provides insights into how libraries can effectively navigate the metaverse to enhance their digital offerings, broaden their reach, and continue their role as essential educational and informational resources in the digital age.
